Characters

Omar, a formerly homeless ex-crackhead of Eritrean origin, is eleven months in. He is preparing a Spoken Word performance with his girlfriend, and with his peers at the Whitechapel Day Center, to celebrate their first year clean.

Nouche, Omar's French painter girlfriend is out of work. She is divorced from her TV host ex-husband, Alain Mouille, and now lives in the East End.

Billie Jean, recovering addict herself, is a newly successful painter.

Aatifa, Omar's diplomat's wife mother, lives in a Tower Hamlets council flat around the corner from Omar.
